Larissa O'Grady (violinist)
Collaborators: Néstor Romero Clemente (filmmaker) & Sam Perkin (composer)
Having become increasingly aware of the natural habitat and local landscape during the period of lockdown, Larissa O’Grady began developing the idea of an installation centered around a solo violin performance but incorporating mixed media and energised by nature.
Inspired by American composer Michael Gordon’s music for three violins ‘Tree-Oh’, Larissa looked west to the beautiful setting of Lough Key Forest Park as the place in which to situate the development of the work and to The Dock Arts Centre as the location for the concert performance as part of Music Networks’ RESONATE Residency Programme. The result is a nature-based art film to accompany the pre-recorded string trio, with all parts played by Larissa.
Sam Perkin’s special commission for this Residency will be premiered in The Dock as part of a broader programme of works for solo violin that will include pieces by David Lang, Linda Buckley, Michael Gordon, Kaija Saariaho, Missy Mazzoli and Andrew Norman.
